ESG Principles Applied In Cambodia

Image
COVID-19 has emphasised the significance of environmental, social, and governance (“ESG”) practises in businesses around the world. However, there was talk of change even before the pandemic. Last year, the Business Roundtable (a group of 181 CEOs from America's largest corporations) stated that companies must "support the communities in which they operate," reversing the long-held focus on shareholder wealth maximisation advocated by American economist Milton Friedman. The year is 2020, and things have changed. This year, Prince Holding Group (“PHG”), one of Cambodia's largest conglomerates, recognised this and blazed a trail for companies in the Kingdom seeking to adhere to ESG principles. Since April, the Group has made several large-scale donations to aid in the fight against the pandemic and flood victims, and PHG Chairman, Neak Oknha Chen Zhi (or Oknha Chen Zhi ), has been the driving force behind the donations. For example, in early December, Chen Zhi and PHG

Image
The COVID-19 pandemic has reset fundamental assumptions underpinning various industries all over the world. In Cambodia, environmental conservation is now an important component of agricultural recovery efforts, and Neak Oknha Chen Zhi and Prince Group are leading the way. Agriculture employs more than a third of Cambodians, and the current crisis presents an opportunity for the sector to “build back better,” according to the CGIAR, the world's largest agricultural research network. Developing countries, such as Cambodia, rely on agricultural exports and must shift away from traditional farming practises that use fertilisers, pesticides, water-intensive processes, and legacy farming methods, all of which contribute to increased deforestation and soil erosion. Chen Zhi and Prince Group launched the Ecological Agriculture Plantation at Prince Manor Resort in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, earlier this year, a cutting-edge agricultural hub at a new real estate development that will plant th

Cambodia Skill Development

Many people's working lives have been altered as a result of the global pandemic, including those in Cambodia. As a responsible corporate citizen, Chairman Neak Oknha Chen Zhi and Prince Group established the Prince Horology Vocational Training Center, Cambodia's first independent watch school. The training centre provides Cambodians with the opportunity to learn a new artisanal skill – watchmaking – and gain the experience needed to compete in job markets in Cambodia and abroad. The training centre adheres to the strict watchmaking regulations outlined by Swiss regulatory bodies. Cambodia, as a country steeped in history, has long preserved artisanal skills for generations, with the Kingdom well-known for its ancient handwoven silk and traditional handicraft industries boasting a heritage dating back to the Khmer Empire, a significance that Chen Zhi and Prince Group have always understood and appreciated. However, new artisanal skills must be introduced to improve job oppor
